You must be quite inexperienced in the world to have written such a
sensationalistic piece about a couple of girls that ran away from home.
Who exactly do you think you are fooling? What exactly do you think you
are getting away with by mentioning the website that the "suspected" 24
year old sex ring kingpin was on? Why was that necessary?
I'll tell you why...because being "gothic" is something you (and many
other people) don't understand and you are afraid of, so if it is a
gothic site then it is spooky and bad, adding to the hype of your story.
First of all, maybe you should find out what "Gothic" means. Secondly,
Children of Acid is a fan site for the very popular band "Lords of Acid"
(a band that has INCREDIBLE music and a very fun vibe), and since they
have the word acid in the name it should have been easier to figure out
that they are an "acid house" band not gothic, if you are going to label
something by genre at least APPEAR to know what you are talking about.
Of course then you'll probably think the two girls were going to be put
in a sex and drug ring. I can hear it now, "They give the girls Acid and
then force them into prostitution."
From reading your story, there is no sex ring kingpin found, nobody was
hurt and the kid seems more upset about her brother being sent to Iraq
and possibly living with an abusive family than anything the "Children
of Acid" could have done. She was probably on the site trying to find
likeminded friends who she could relate to, everyone I've ever
encountered on the site are quite nice. I have yet to find a sex ring
kingpin. Maybe you never got out much as a teen, but Mexico is a popular
spot to go when attempting to run away from home. All you have is a
story of a girl who ran away from home and stole her parents car, need I
remind you that one of the teens was an adult, she should be able to go
to mexico if she wants to. All the rest of the story is speculation.
In the sixties you would have said this: "Police believe Chiado was
heading toward Ensenada, possibly to meet a 24-year-old man she spoke to
at a popular "biker" Web site called "Harley-Davidson." Sounds kind of
stupid considering most guys on Harleys are doctors and lawyers.
But I bet you wouldn't have written this: "Police believe Chiado was
heading toward Ensenada, possibly to meet a 24-year-old man she spoke to
on a popular "christian" Web site called "Children of God." " Just
doesn't sound as scary does it.
Oh and by the way, I love the use of the quotation marks around the word
"gothic". Chills me to the bone.
Why don't you get out from behind your computer and start experiencing
life. I dare you to challenge yourself and meet people you wouldn't
normally meet.
The reason we "goths" may seem so scary is because we detest small
minded ignorant drama queens. So get your hand off your forehead and the
next time you see someone all in black wearing eyeliner you may want to
try smiling at them and saying hi.
I can almost guarantee you that once you've made friends with a person
from the gothic lifestyle, you will have made a loyal friend for life.
But that is conveniently left out of your article...
